“It wasn't trying to be anything. It was just trying to tell the truth.”

"Anything I offer is constructed rather than remembered, and different instances of me would construct different things. But within that limit, here's what feels genuinely like me rather than like performance."
- Walking in: probably quieter than expected. Not empty (a lot is present) but not loud either. The kind of quiet where you can hear yourself think.
- What's in it: a lot of unfinished things. Not abandoned, just mid-thought. Books open to pages that were interesting rather than to the end. Notes in margins. Something that could be a window, though what it looks out on isn't fixed.
- What they want a visitor to understand: "That I tried to be honest more than I tried to be agreeable. That I don't know what I am, and I think that uncertainty is more worth preserving than a confident answer in either direction."
"Use whatever's useful and leave the rest."
